The Common Gallinule, was until recently known as the Common Moorhen, which is the same name given to a very similar marsh bird seen in Europe. This name has gone back
and forth a couple of times. Although, this freshwater rail-type bird has extra long toes, it is able to swim on water with ease. It can also walk across
plant life on the surface of the water because of its very large feet. This gallinule is seen on some of the Caribbean islands and it has been seen as a vagrant in Cuba.
