The Short-eared Owl can be seen flying over fields during morning and the evening hours in the same manner as hawks. This owl migrates to the arctic shores and on to the arctic islands in the spring, where it feeds on lemmings and small birds. It is more apt to nest and live on the ground than in trees. During its fall migration, it is not uncommon to see large gatherings of owls, all resting on the ground together. This owl has been seen in Cuba.
