The Upland Sandpiper is not found near water like most other sandpipers. This lean-looking sandpiper prefers pastures, where the grass is long and unkempt. At times, it can be seen perched on a fencepost or utility lines. There is concern for this bird, as it is showing dwindling numbers in its population in recent years. This sandpiper spends its winter in the warmer tropical countries. It has been seen as a migrant in Cuba.
