Lives, Habitats & Pictures of the Falcons

Peregrine Falcon

There are at least three types of falcons that live or have visited the island of Cuba in addition to one sub-specie. The Peregrine Falcon and the Merlin have the widest ranges. The race of the American Kestrel that is seen in Cuba has much less markings on its breast and is the smallest member of the falcon family.

The falcons are the swiftest birds, with records stating aerial dives at 200 mph and some as high as 300 mph. They are still used by falconers to hunt other game birds and animals for sport.
